Back in the days, during a sunny weekend in June 1968, the Monterey International Pop Festival was held in California. This movies perfectly captures a decade’s spirit and the start of a new era of pop music.
“The greatest pre-Woodstock rock music festival”
With unforgettable performances by Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Otis Redding and The Who, the Monterey Pop Festival was the first of its kind and is the ‘prototype’ of Woodstock. Today’s festivals like Pinkpop and Roskilde find their heritage in Monterey Pop and might have never existed if it wasn’t for Monterey Pop.
This pop festival film is packed with legendary footage of Pete Townshend hurling away his guitar, Jimi Hendrix burning his guitar, Janis Joplin as a roaring lioness on stage wowing the crowd, happy hippies shouting:
‘It will be a love-in… like Easter, Christmas and your birthday all at once!’
Whether you like it or not, this sensational movie will call up your inner hippie. The movie is produced directly after the festival and was released in ’68. Recently it has been ‘re-released’ in superior quality. And guess what? It has been imported from New York especially for Zienemaan & Sterren.
Yeah, the sixties at its finest. Get up folks, it’s time for some serious dancing! Show us some moves!
